In 2021, the Kunsten Museum of Modern Art Aalborg invited artist Jens Haaning to take part in Work it Out, an exhibition about modern working life. The museum commissioned Haaning to recreate two of his works—An Average Austrian Year Income (2007) and An Average Danish Year Income (2010)—fronting him approximately DKK 532,549 (USD 84,000) in cash to display inside the frames. Instead of the agreed-upon reproductions, Haaning delivered the museum two blank canvases titled Take the Money and Run (2021), accompanied by a single-line email explaining that the blank frames should replace the older works. In a subsequent settlement, Haaning returned the museum's money and agreed for the museum to display the blank frames, alongside a printed version of Haaning’s email, as the exhibition's new work.
